Single minded to the point of Recklessness

Maverick:" Too close for missles, I'm switching to guns".

have u ever scared yourself? no really, thats the question...like have u ever really scared you?
sometimes...we become so passionate about something that we start scaring ourselves...with our obsessiveness. i feel nothing good ever came out of normal efforts...if u want soemthing so hard...so bad ...u gotta be obsessed with it!
of late..i have realised that when i do get into somethin like really hard core! i start scarin myself...u know that feelin..
u eat with it. u sleep with it. u do everything with it in mind! i mean single minded to the point of recklessness!
what scares me is...what if THAT soemthin i desire so much leaves me feelin empty inside? i mean i've been here before. have u ever had this strong urge about somethin and then after havin it in ur hands ..u just let it slip away?
that feelin of emptiness...of not knowin what happened and not wanting to either?

i may not be makin the least sense to you people but its a serious concern for me. To me ..life is these straight words...want somethin.go get it.period.
but what after that?
what after u have that somethin? what do u do with it? what if its NOT what u wanted?? what if somethin that was supposed to leave u brimming with joy leaves u empty and devastated? well...devastated is a harsh word..i shud have thought before employin it!

if u've ever been utterly single minded abt soemthin...you'll realise u get this extreme power ...this un beating un- relenting strength inside...that makes u worthy of movin any mountain!!
when u're so indulged into somethin....the gravity of teh situation dawns on u! and all the what -ifs come into picture!
the only problem with being so immersed into things is....when u see them crashing down in front of u..when u see everythin fallin apart right under ur nose....and u cant help it! have u ever built a sand castle really fervently and with all your heart in it? and then have u seen the waves coming down on it and destryoing everything? THAT is what i'm talkin abt!

sometimes the vastness of somethin scares u...u yourself ..your own 'obsession and will' can scare u..its like the sky or maybe the water....imagine urself in teh middle of the ocean in the middle of the night with water everywhere...black water..and nowhere to go...
sometimes u really have no where to go...u cant run away from urself? and thats exactly what u want to do... u wanna escape ur thoughts! and ur own will.

anyway..of late i've been feelin thirsty all the time...wonder what it is...wonder what my system is upto? scary...eh?? :P

by the way i came to know yesterday what they do in the american slaughter houses....they take the lambs and all thsoe animals u guys love eating ....put them in boilin hot water till the time they're almost dead and then pull them out and lay them on the aseembly lines where they lie writhing in pain for a good 15 minutes and after the creatures are dead ...they're sent out to the exotic hotels where u dig a hole into ur pockets to pay for the check!
this is all it takes to make me stay off non veg forever. think abt this people! you cant do this to fellow earth in habitants. if thsi is what they do in america...i don even have teh courage to find out what happens in india!
its an issue. stop eatin it. its killin people!

passin thought:
“It is the calm and silent water that drowns a man”

Rocking post! One of the best as far as my opinion is concerned...and u were not happy wid this article! tsk tsk...
yes, this feeling never seems to escape me... especially whenever i had got a kewl gadget or sumthin... it was that emptiness that made me realize that life just cannot be the pursuit of material possessions... and as the saying goes, "Just when you think you've got the answer, life changes the question..."
It was precisely this thinking that had inclined me towards spiritual pursuits, but these days seemed to have forgotten the reason... but now thanks to this, it seems renewed! Life is a continuous pursuit to improve yourself, be better than u were, and that constant strive for excellence...
Believe me, nothing has ever made more sense to me.
and yup, when the thoughts seem too much for one to think about, we all have that tendency to switch off... at least i do!
And regarding the point that u feel constantly thirsty, its ur body crying out for u subjecting it to that terrible 'detox diet' of yours....
Yeah yeah.. all that stuff abt animals may be true, but well, ok.. whateva! i ain't a hardcore non-veggie! i don't want this riding on my conscience! let me enjoy the occasional meal of fish and chicken in peace!
Carry on writing babes! its doing quite a good job for me not to write anythin of my own!

I do this. I know the things that fill me and satisfy. I also know the things that fill me for only a moment or not at all. I too often obsess over the things that don't satisfy.

When I jump into something, I want to know it from every angle, I want to conquer it, I want to be the best at it. I am obsessive. It is my choice then to choose the things I know are satisfying and complete.

I don't think it's "killing people"...

Anyway, if something is really done and meat is no longer industrial produce, what do you think will happen?

Or do you want being non-veg to be declared illegal? I doubt even that will help. Drugs are illegal, I think, but they're still consumed.

You have to consider the fact that most of these are farm animals, technically born to be eaten. If you remove the farms and place them in the forests, they are still going to be eaten by other animals. Or maybe even starve to death.

In the end, it comes down to the fact that plants are not, and will not be the basic food for every single organism down there.

Animals are going to die. Mostly killed. It is going to be painful. If you want, you can protect your conscience by "not being a part of it" but in the long run you do not make a difference by being veg or non-veg, not in the world as a whole, even if - by an unlikely chance - you are able to change human society.

Myself, I find the idea sick. Not eating non-veg cause it saves your own conscience and then pretending to be an ambassador for the poor animals? Come on, everyone knows it won't help.

Oh damn, I said "down there"...

Disclaimer: It was a slip, really. I do not consider humans to be the pinnacle of the food chain.

@udit: thats the basic problem...i cant stop thinkin! with me its not like some switch i can put off..wish it was!

@brent:i so agree with every word .
u cudnt have been more corect!
i loved 'in worship' so much..i just had to link it. :)

@rohit: it IS gonna help..cz without demand there isnt any supply! and im not makin a plea to the whole world to turn veg ..all i'm sayin is ..."I" don think it's right!
and i'm not ambassadorin any ideas here...neither am i doin it for some conscience sake...i don like what they do to these animals to turn them into food and i cant imagine myself feedin on somethin which was so brutally murdered a while ago...
anyway..to each his own.
i respect ur ideas and u respect mine. peace.
PS i know ..it must've been a slip.
=P

Yes, it will help. I completely disagree about your farm animal theory. It implies you support the Chinese tiger farming theories as well. People went against killing of inbred tigers, so why not for other animals?

Anyway, yes, these animals will be killed. But in the natural world, they have a chance to escape. Here, we dont give them any chances.

@Anu.

Brilliant post, like always. You have gotten the killing idea wrong. That is not how it happens. Before I converted to vegetarianism, I did visit the Gazipur slaughter house in Delhi, and saw around 15 videos of slaughter houses in the US. The actual method is much more cruel and disturbing.

1st step -- Nailing. The animals are nailed on the head using a handgun of sorts. The brains splatter out. Instant death.

2nd step -- They are put on the conveyor belts, and their blood is drained out manually.

3rd step -- The head is chopped off. And the animals' limbs are chopped off as well.

4th step -- The hide of the animal is scraped off, and used for leather, mostly.

5th step -- The body is thrown in the machinery. What goes on in there, I do not know. BUT what comes out is neatly cut small pieces of meat.

Go on google. Search for "Slaughter house pictures" or "Killfloor pictures".

Nope.
Apparently you didn't get what all that was about.

Don't use examples you don't know about, please.

That was went against because there was no way to differentiate between farm-tiger produce and wild-tiger extracts. Which meant it would encourage poaching.

And dude, after the "instant death" the rest is irrelevant to tell the truth.

YOU burn/bury your relatives after they die. BURN. That's very nice, I suppose, if you call all that brutal then there is no way that this is not.

RG said...

Anyway, if you're veg I respect your choices and opinions, but there aren't many valid arguments to make non-vegetarians turn veg.

Maybe if you take them and disgust them with blood and gore to the point that they think of it everytime they think of eating non-veg.

But that's simply disgust, no love for animals and stuff.

Ramit Singal said...

So, let's just say that killing these "farm-grown" tigers did not encourage poaching. Would you still allow it?

As for the instant death thingy, I never said I have something against it. I just pointed out the method. I dont care if you eat these animals. Just do it how it is supposed to be done in the natural world. Give them the chance. Catch them yourself. Here, they stand in a line just waiting to be killed. Sort of like jews standing in a line to go into the gas chambers.

"Burning the relative" That's an unreasonable point isn't it? First of all, I am pretty sure there's a difference between burning the dead and murdering someone for food.

Secondly, I am also quite sure that my relatives know that if they die, they'll definitely be burnt. If they find it gruesome, they should tell their families how they want to be cremated.

RG said...

My point is, after death it doesn't matter.

Catching them yourself is not a viable option. Most people live in cities, not jungles.

You're right, they do deserve a chance. But some are going to die anyway. There is only one way this will stop, and that is if everyone becomes a vegetarian.

Me, I just eat what I get. I don't go around demanding non-veg or something, but I will eat it if my options are limited.

I've heard some people would rather die than eat non-veg. Those are fools. Unless they don't want to eat for a specific reason, such as they aren't sure it's safe.

@ ramit
yes, there's a difference btw cremating ppl and slaughtering animals.
burning contributes to pollution and wastage whereas slaughter houses lead to cheaper meat, meanng more ppl get to eat.

plants feel and live and grow and reproduce. why eat plants then?

about the feeling of emptiness or scaring yourself, never felt it so cant comment..
